Amazon Ads No Impressions: What to Check Before You Change Bids

Zero reported impressions are first a delivery-or-reporting question. Check campaign status and reporting maturity before raising bids or blaming the book page.

A displayed zero does not necessarily mean the ad never served. Amazon says clicks and impressions can take up to 72 hours to appear in Campaign Manager, and a campaign marked Delivering can be running before the data populates. Diagnose reporting maturity and eligibility before changing the listing. Amazon Ads

Scope: Sponsored Products for KDP authors. Amazon also offers Sponsored Brands, but Sponsored Brands use a different report set and can use different ad/landing experiences. The report instructions in this guide are primarily for Sponsored Products unless explicitly stated otherwise. Amazon Ads book reporting guide

The short answer Zero reported impressions are a delivery-or-reporting question. Start with reporting maturity and campaign status. Only after the reporting window is meaningful and the campaign is eligible to serve should you diagnose bids, budget, targeting, eligibility, and auction competitiveness.

The zero-impression troubleshooting ladder

Hard stop1. Check campaign statusIf status is not Delivering, fix the status before diagnosing bids or targeting.
2. Check reporting maturityAmazon says Sponsored Products clicks and impressions can take up to 72 hours to appear in Campaign Manager. A Delivering campaign can therefore be running before the numbers populate.
3. Check budget + paymentOut of Budget and Payment Failure can stop delivery.
4. Check book/format eligibility + marketplace availabilityConfirm the advertised title/format is eligible for book ads, available in the marketplace you are advertising in, and not blocked by a catalog or policy issue.
5. Check bids + targetsIf the campaign is Delivering and eligible, inspect bid competitiveness, targeting breadth/relevance, and whether the targets can enter auctions.
6. Check platform statusBefore rebuilding a healthy-looking campaign, check Amazon Ads Status for delivery/reporting incidents.

Step 1: status before strategy

Amazon’s current campaign-status guidance lists statuses including Out of Budget, Payment Failure, Paused, Pending Review, Rejected, Scheduled, Suspended, Draft, Delivering, and Archived. A campaign that is not running will not receive impressions. Amazon Ads

Treat status as the first branching point.
Status typeInterpretationNext move
DeliveringCampaign is active and eligible to serve impressionsCheck reporting age, then bids/targets/auction competitiveness
Out of Budget / Payment FailureDelivery is blocked by budget or billingFix budget/payment before changing targeting
Pending ReviewNormal review process; Amazon says review can take up to 3 business daysWait for the review outcome; do not diagnose bidding or targeting yet
Rejected / SuspendedPolicy/content approval problemReview the reason, fix the issue, and resubmit as appropriate
Paused / Scheduled / Draft / ArchivedCampaign is not currently eligible to run normallyActivate, schedule correctly, submit, or recreate as appropriate
Separate two clocks. For a Sponsored Products campaign that says Delivering, Amazon’s current troubleshooting guidance says impressions and clicks can take up to 72 hours to populate in Campaign Manager. Broader KDP ad-attribution/reporting windows can be longer, so a blank first day is not the same thing as proven non-delivery. Amazon Ads
Also check Amazon Ads Status

If your campaign looks correctly configured but delivery/reporting is abnormal, Amazon provides a service-status page for advertisers—including book authors—covering campaign management, ad delivery, and reporting incidents. Amazon Ads Status

If status is Delivering, check eligibility before bids and targeting

Once the campaign is eligible to serve, first confirm the advertised book/format is eligible and available in the intended marketplace. Then zero or near-zero reported impressions after the reporting window has matured can plausibly come from low auction competitiveness, overly narrow targeting, limited relevance, or campaign configuration. Do not jump straight to a bid increase. Amazon KDP

Use this evidence
  • Campaign Manager: confirm Delivering status, budget, start/end dates, and whether the campaign has any alerts.
  • Book/format eligibility: confirm the advertised title is eligible, available in the marketplace, and free of catalog/policy issues. Amazon directs authors with persistent eligibility or catalog problems to Ads/KDP support.
  • Targeting Report: once impressions exist, compare target-level performance; before impressions exist, use the target setup itself to assess whether the campaign is too narrow.
  • Amazon Ads Status: rule out a service incident before reconstructing a campaign that otherwise looks healthy.

What zero reported impressions do not prove

  • They do not prove the cover is weak.
  • They do not prove the description is weak.
  • They do not prove readers dislike the book.
  • They do not prove a bid increase is the only solution.

Until reporting has matured and impressions are confirmed, you do not have reliable pre-click reader behavior to evaluate.

Worked example: the campaign “looks dead” on day one

An author launches a Sponsored Products campaign and sees zero reported impressions the same afternoon. The campaign status says Pending Review. In that case, bid and keyword diagnosis is premature—the campaign is not yet in the state where normal auction behavior can be evaluated.

Now change one fact: the campaign has been Delivering for long enough that reporting should be meaningful, budget is available, there is no Ads Status incident, and impressions remain absent. That is when bid competitiveness, target breadth, relevance, and configuration deserve attention.

Once impressions begin, the diagnosis changes

As soon as the campaign receives impressions, stop treating it as a pure delivery problem. If impressions accumulate but clicks do not, move to the pre-click diagnosis. If clicks arrive but downstream outcomes are weak, move to data maturity, traffic quality, Kindle+ outcomes, and conversion.

FAQ

Why is my Amazon book ad showing zero impressions?

Start with reporting maturity and campaign status. Amazon says clicks and impressions can take up to 72 hours to appear; if the campaign is Delivering, it may already be running. After that, inspect eligibility, budget, billing, bids, targeting, and service health.

How long should I wait for Amazon Ads impressions to appear?

Amazon says clicks and impressions can take up to 72 hours to appear in Campaign Manager. If status is Delivering, the ad may already be running while displayed totals are incomplete.

Should I increase my bid if I have no impressions?

Not until reporting has matured and the campaign is Delivering, eligible, funded, approved, and not affected by a service incident. Then bid competitiveness and target breadth become reasonable hypotheses.

Do zero reported impressions mean nobody wants my book?

No. A displayed zero can reflect reporting delay or a delivery problem. It is not reader-demand or conversion evidence.
